My 5 New Year's Resolutions for 2017

Since it’s the start of the new year, I thought it would only be fitting if I made some New Year’s resolutions! A lot of people make these and give up on them less than halfway through the year – me included. For some reason, I figured I’d make them again, except easier this year. This year I’ve decided to make my resolutions somewhat general rather than specific. So maybe this can potentially be the year I can say that I’ve “completed” all of them!

Find a Workout I Love

Being fit instead of just “skinny” is all the rage right now and I back it completely! Typically, my resolution for this would read like, “lose [insert numerical value] pounds by this [insert day that is way too soon].” Rather than being way too hard on myself, I just want to find a workout that I genuinely enjoy. That being said, I’m not a huge fan of yoga, but I want to be!

Read at least One Book Every Month

This resolution is pretty self-explanatory, but the only true “rule” I have for it is that I have to alternate between fiction and nonfiction. Lately, I’ve been getting into nonfiction books, which is great, but whenever I disconnect myself from my imagination or creativity too long, I get in a funk whenever it comes to my creative work.

Take More Time to Relax

2016 taught me a lot about how my body reacts to stress. For example, any time I went to the doctor, dentist, and even my allergist, I would get asked or told that I’m stressed out. And even though I could confidently say that my mind wasn’t stressed out, I learned that your body can be stressed even if your mind isn’t. Don’t worry, I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the idea. So this year, I want to take more to physically destress.

Now, I know this is sort of contradictory to my previous resolution, but let’s just roll with it. I want to say YAAAS to more opportunities that come my way. I won’t lie, I’m an introvert. But sometimes there’s a line where you can be too much of an introvert – and I’m there! So my goal is just to be able to say YAAAS to whatever opportunities float by whether it be work related, friends, serving, family or anything else that doesn’t fall into those categories!

Take More Pictures

Storytime. One day someone told me that I didn’t have any friends because I didn’t have enough pictures with them on social media. True story. That happened when I was in eighth grade – I’m in college now. And I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t stuck with me. I’m not saying I want to take more pictures to prove I have friends. Because I have friends! But it always made me think that I have nothing to look back on. Now that I’m a mom, I’m realizing how much time flies by and I want to be able to capture more of those sweet moments with my daughter or family and friends so that I can look back on them when I’m older… and to show my daughter’s future husband all the embarrassing memorabilia I’ve collected over the years!

I think these resolutions will be easier to keep than most that I’ve made in the past. I’m thinking a 6 month check-in is definitely in the future to let you all know how they’re going! So your turn! What are your 2017 New Year’s resolutions?? Leave them in the comments below because I want to see them and possibly get some early inspiration for next year!!
